What is Pickheads?

Pickheads is an online sports community and sports outcome prediction tool. It is part research and analysis, part fantasy sports, and part social networking. Combined, these elements make Pickheads a compelling place for sports fans to synthesize, share and collaborate on views on professional sports matchups.

Why Pickheads?

If you listen to sports radio, you've probably heard ads offering things like "guaranteed winners" and "pick of the year". Being firm believers in the idea that groups of informed people are collectively smarter — and better at predicting future outcomes — than the so-called "experts", we wanted to put this to the test.

By collecting and aggregating predictions from a community of users, we're able to come up with the foundation of Pickheads: the community consensus. This consensus is essentially the collective wisdom of the community distilled down to a single number. Since Pickheads tracks detailed game and picks data, additional slicing by sport/team "expertise" and historical performance and, hence, identification of the "sharps" becomes possible.

Who is Pickheads?

Pickheads was conceived and built by good friends and avid sports fans Ray, Wayne and Asher (Ray considers poker a sport). Like many living in Silicon Valley, we had a "wouldn’t it be cool if" moment and simply couldn’t resist. We decided to bring our years of internet and information technology experience together to build a website that we personally would want to use. A year or so later in August 2006, we did just that with the public beta release of Pickheads.
